Foghíles

Set up in summer 2018 by the association Po.Ps. Rurbana, Foghíles is a project that promotes and organises opportunities for meeting and experimentation in the rural area of Semèstene, Mejlogu, Sardinia.

Foghíles is a word in Sardo logudorese, the local language, which means “fireplaces”. In the past and still today in Sardinia the meetings around fires represent occasions for transmission of knowledge and direct learning through tales and experiences.

Directly connected with the local context of Semèstene, Foghìles’ meetings follow the agrarian calendar and the seasonal rhythm starting with the week of the autumn equinox in September, then following other solstices, equinoxes and events linked to local practices and rituals throughout the year.

During each event, guest visitors and volunteers become temporary part of the village community creating a direct dialogue with the local community, in a context where time is marked by the tolling of bells and space is shaped by scenarios of learning and conviviality.
