Gulung Tukar

Gulung Tukar is an arts and cultural group that was formed in Tulungagung in December 2019. When it was first formed, Gulung Tukar’s main focus was to map and form creative networks in the city of Tulungagung, because so far it seems that there are very few young people in art culture. From this point on there was a desire to create a multi-disciplinary creative space that could become a representation for the city of Tulungagung. The vision to be strived for is to build an active, inclusive, supportive and equal cultural arts ecosystem.

The formation of Gulung Tukar was also a response to the Jatim Biennale 8 event. On 27 December 2019 – 13 January 2020 the first event was held with the title Lowering the Anchor, Developing the Screen | Photo Exhibition, Film Screening and Daily Program. This activity is a starting point as well as a stepping stone for Gulung Tukar to build a wider art network. Then in 2020-2021, Gulung Tukar received a donation from the Prince Claus Fund for the main agenda in April 2021 with the headline Developing Screen, Rotating Rudder | Exhibitions, Screenings and Programs. This biennale-style activity is the next step to broaden perspectives and space for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and other creative experiments.
