WALLA is a space launched in Kodaira, Tokyo in the summer of 2019 by Kazuki Oishi, Haruo Ohno, Kasumi Maeda, and Shuntaro Yoshino. It is a two-story detached house, and four people who usually run it jointly use the second floor as their own atelier, and the gallery space on the first floor is used to plan and hold exhibitions and events on an irregular basis. WALLA means the so-called “extra” effect, such as “gaya” and “bustling”, and it is not a group name as an artist collective like an artist collective, but a principle assertion. It was named as a word that refers only to a shared place that is not unified. Some people want an environment where they can concentrate on their work alone, while others can maintain their motivation to create by having a group. There are also those who are more interested in the production of projects than the production of works. It is shared as a place where such disparate desires can be achieved.
